In the land of the living
Ughhhhhh, I just don’t like this WAITING game! That’s exactly how I felt last night. Have you ever felt like you’ve been praying for the same thing for DECADES? Yes, I know all the time. My sister-in-law Allison has a running joke that one should never pray for patience because BOY WILL YOU GET IT. She is so right.

A few years ago I remember asking God for PATIENCE. I am pleased to announce that he clearly heard that prayer and is STILL working on it by using the wait technique to give it to me. (Did I mention that I asked for this while I was still in High School? I know, I know, I am a slow learner.) Many times we repeatedly pray for things and feel as though we will never get them. Sometimes, I wonder will I ever get to see God’s promises fulfilled while I am still alive and fully capable of recognizing the blessing. Will I ever get what I am praying for?
The answer? Psalm 27:13
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Like David, we must be confident that God hears and will answer our prayers while we are still alive. David had an unshakable confidence that God is a faithful God and that he just can’t help but to deliver. He is just, loyal and always on time. So what do we do in the meantime? Ughhhh…here goes that word – WAIT. David advises us to:
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. – Psalm 27:14
Waiting is a key ingredient to following God’s will for your life. Saul’s failure to wait for the Prophet Samuel caused him to lose the throne. We must learn to trust God even when he appears to be snailing. He will show up, but we must wait. Even when it seems hopeless, keep the faith. He will show up. Even when your back is against the wall, stay strong – He will show up. I pray that today’s devotion will inspire you to trust in God and to hold fast to your faith. You will see your blessings in the land of the living.
Memory Text:
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank you for reminding me that you are still hearing my prayers and that you will in your appointed time pour down the blessings. Teach me to WAIT on you and to remain confident that I will see my blessings in the land of the living.
