Lord willing
Tonight’s meditation is taken from James chapter 4: 13 – 17
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins
Ever since I was a little girl my parents have always corrected me when I would say tomorrow I am going to do this or tomorrow I am going to do that. They would always yell out Si Dieu le Veut which is French for if it be God’s will or Lord willing. It was quite irritating when I was younger because they were always on queue with it and it would frustrate me. Somehow, I had the wrong notion that as long as what I wanted was good or what I had planned was confirmed, why would GOD not let it come to pass</em>?
As I grew older and began to understand what they were trying to instill in me, I realized that they had it right all along. You will often hear the children of God boast of their great vacation plans, upcoming events and goals with great assurance that there is nothing in the world that can stop them. We seem to have forgotten that tomorrow is not promised to us and as sure as our plans may appear to be, only God knows if we will make it to see those great big plans fulfilled.

Our tomorrows lie in the hands of God and because of this fact, we must always end our statements with Lord willing. What you will eat, where you will go and whatever you plan to do is only if the Lord wills it to come to pass. How many expectant mothers make preparations for a new addition only to walk out empty handed? How many brides/grooms get dressed up just to left waiting at the altar? How many families book vacations just to have a spouse come home and announce that he/she has been laid off?
We have no control over our future but thank God we know who does and as long as we place our plans in his hands and acknowledge that it is only through his will that we can accomplish anything, we will be able to live our lives with confidence and faith. Tonight as you prepare to go to bed, have you submitted your great big plans to God, or are you still relying on yourself?
I pray that we all will learn to turn everything over to God and acknowledge his sovereignty. For without God, we would be nothing but in Him we are all things.

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank you for reminding me that I am nothing without you. Lord, teach me to submit all of my goals, dreams and plans to you and remind me to always subject my plans to your perfect will for my life.
