Hurting for your good
When I was growing up, I couldn’t understand why my mom would give me a beating and then say “this hurts me more than it hurts you. (yes I said beating! Some of these kids walking around acting like they have no home training need some beatings) I don’t care how she played it in her head, but from where I was standing I was the one crying and in pain. Now that I am older, I am grateful for some of those beatings because without some of them, I probably wouldn’t be the person I am today.
As I reflect on those days, I think about the beatings that we sometimes get from God. While we go through the trials, we may feel the hurt, the pain and sorrow, but when all is said and done, it was for our own good. In reading the next few chapters of 2 Corinthians, I came upon the following scripture:
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. 2 Corinthians 7:10-11.
The sorrow we feel from our trials come to make us stronger Christians. When I think about where I have been and look at where I am now, I know for a fact that I would not be the woman I am if I didn’t go through the experiences that I had. I am strong today because I was weak yesterday. The enemy will sometimes try to fill us with resentment while we go through our rough patches. However, we must remember that it is only for a season and that God has a purpose and a plan.

No matter how hard things may appear, God is working things out for our good. As we said is yesterday’s devotion, thought we are Pressed, we are not crushed. God is present every step of the way. Today as you run your errands, remember that your Godly sorrow will produce the best in you. Just trust God.
