Line of Blessings

May, Monday 10th, 2010. Filed under: Christian Life

Ever stood in a line waiting to be served and then notice someone comes and skips the line and they get served before you? Don’t you feel like just like snatching them right out of the line and say Helloooooooo, we ain’t all standing here for our health. But, what good would that do? They have already been served and I still have to wait in line.

I liken this to the line of blessings. What is that? Well, let’s break it down. Have you ever been waiting on a particular blessing from God for ages? You pray and fast and pray and fast some more and then all of a sudden someone else cuts the line and snatches that blessing and leaves you standing there waiting? It could be a job promotion, someone you had your eye on, a house, etc. I have felt this a number of times and it hurts so bad. Its not that you are envious of the blessings of others, but sometimes I feel like hitting my prayer mic and saying Testing, Testing, 1,2,3…is this thing on? I mean are my prayers getting lost somewhere up there?

As I sit and ponder on how I feel, I am quickly reminded of some others in the Bible who felt exactly the same. How annoyed was Rachel to watch her sister give birth back to back while she was still barren? How did Sarah feel when Hagar walked around prancing her son while she had none? How did Joseph feel when he was sold into slavery while his brothers were still living it up in his father’s house? How did Moses feel when he was cast into the desert to fend for himself when he was accustomed to the palace life? Many in the Bible experienced what I am feeling. However, one thing that encourages me this morning is that in the end God proved more than just faithful to each of them.

Not only did God answer prayer, he blessed the blessings that he gave them. Rachel not only gave birth to 2 sons, one of them was Joseph who saved the nation from starvation. Moses not only made it out of the desert, he delivered a nation from 400 years of slavery. Sarah not only bore Isaac, she is the mother of nations. What God blesses is blessed! Sometimes, God delays our blessings not because he is unfair or being mean, sometimes the delay is for the glory of God. Sometimes, it is because He doesn’t feel that we are ready. Whatever the reason, we must remember that God is sovereign and He knows what’s best. Despite how long its been since we began praying, we must keep praying. We must keep seeking God. In time, when we least expect it, the blessing will arrive and we will realize that it was in fact worth the wait. So, get back in line and wait your turn. You’re almost up.

Memory Text:

However, as it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. – 1 Corinthians 2:9

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank you for reminding me that you hear my prayers. Teach me to wait my turn and to wait patiently for my appointed time. I know when my blessing comes it will be more than I ever dreamed of. Therefore, empower me to wait and help me to press on..
