Pressed but not crushed

Today’s devotion is one that I really needed to hear. [Funny thing is I need to hear it so God has me writing it. What a God!] As I face some of the challenges in my life, I often wonder is this it? Is God going to just let this be the end of me? The cares of this world sometimes has me so boggled down and stressed out to the max. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep and it feels like there is absolutely no way out. Has God forgotten me? This is the question I ask when it just seems like the world is crashing down on me.

Last night as I took my requests to the Lord, he gave me Psalm 113 and it was able to quiet my Spirit. Verses 5-9 really struck home for me.

Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people.

He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children.

When I read these verses, I couldn’t help but to praise the Lord. He reminded me that he may sit way up there but he is still comes down to care for my every need. God reminded me that though I may be poor and needy now, he will raise me up and cause me to sit amongst the princes of the land. He reminded me that though I may appear to be barren, he will cause me to bear fruit. What an awesome and mighty God we serve! He is faithful and will see us through.

As you go about your day, remember that God is attentive to your needs. He knows your desires and he is working things out for you. Don’t look at your current circumstances as your guaranteed outcome. Remember that he is sitting up on high but, he is stooping down to look over you.

Memory Text:

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. – 1 Corinthians 4:8-9

Prayer Prompt
Lord, thank you for reminding me that you are always looking over me. Teach me to keep the faith even when things seem hopeless. Show me how to walk through the fire with the confidence that you will always be by my side…
