Keep your Cool
On this morning’s commute to work, I was waiting for the train doors to open. As soon as it did, a lady brushed past me to grab a seat. I waited till she did and then sat myself right next to her. I don’t know if she wanted to have a whole bench to herself’ but she started fiddling herself and elbowing me ON PURPOSE. The crazy thing about it is that when I looked at her in shock, she actually had the nerve to get upset. WAIT, YOU ELBOWED ME BUT YOU ARE UPSET!!!! {I kept my thoughts to myself}. When I realized that she was looking for a morning drama scene, I pulled out my iPOD and played something that would distract me.
As I listened to a sermon by TD Jakes, I thought to myself how committed the enemy is to getting us to come out of our characters so that he can spend the rest of the time beating us up with guilt. He will disguise himself in a number of ways. He is like a shape-shifter. He will take the form of your children, husband, wife, friends, church family, parents, co-workers or even random people you don’t even know. All he wants is to make you lose your temper so that he can then rub it in your face. One way to cause him to lose his hold is to keep your cool.
When the enemy comes with his tactics and you feel like you are about to explode, walk away. When he comes to you fueling the fire, cry out to Jesus. Whatever you do, KEEP YOUR COOL. The funny thing is when the lady realized I paid her no mind and kept my cool. She looked so uncomfortable. She looked like she wanted to crawl under a rock. All I could do was smile because I knew at that moment, the devil did not win.
I don’t know what will happen today at work, school or the bus, train, anywhere. But, I have come to remind you that you have a power in you to resist the enemy. Be strong today and rebuke the devil’s tactics. Don’t let anyone or thing get you to come out of your character. Keep your cool! By keeping your cool, you never know who you will be ministering to. Give God a chance to work through you by not coming out of your Christ-character.
Memory text:
Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. —Proverbs 16:32
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank you for reminding me that I must maintain my Christ-character. Help me to recognize the enemy’s tactics and teach me to keep my cool. However, if I were to stumble, teach me to seek your forgiveness and not to beat up on myself. Remind me that I am striving for perfection and will sometimes fall but the most important thing is not to stay down but to get back up again.
