God Remembers
This morning during my commute, I picked up my Kindle and continued my 60-day overview of the Bible. Today’s reading was Genesis 6:1 through Genesis 8:22. Here we covered the story of Noah and the Ark. God had become so turned off by the sins of humanity, he decided to wipe everything out and start all over again. He commands Noah to build an ark. Noah builds this Ark and takes his family inside along with a representation of every animal on earth. It rained on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights. Everything as Noah knew it was destroyed except for those who were in the ark. God was truly angry with mankind. Their sins were too much and he regretted creating man.
Despite his anger, the Bible says in Genesis 8:1a:
But God remembered Noah
This simple statement caught my attention and I started to meditate on it. I was amazed to see that despite the anger God felt towards man, despite the fact that he wished he never created them, God REMEMBERED Noah. It comforted me to know that in the midst of the chaos and sin of the world, God remembers us. God remembers his children. War, famine, recession, etc. none of these things can cause God to forget about us. Romans 8:38-39 reminds us,
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In a time where many within our churches are struggling with unemployment, foreclosures, sickness, failing marriages and more, God sent me to stop by to remind his people that he REMEMBERS them and he is working in their favor. The storms will pass and the winds will cease. Like Noah, all we have to do is stay in the Ark and wait on the Lord.
Memory Text:
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank you for remembering me. Help me to wait on you and to trust that you will never leave my side.
