In the midst of the haze
I had one of those weekends where things just kept burdening me down. As much as I tried to cheer up, things would just throw me for a loop. Funny enough, the more I tried to find a fix, the worse they got. I have come to realize that when you’re in a confused state or experiencing turmoil, it is better to seek out God and let him clear out the mess.
For some odd reason, we have a tendency to think that our friends, loved ones or colleagues have the answers when in reality, they may sink us into further confusion. When things seem blurry in our lives, it is not always wise to seek the advice of others especially when we can’t explain how we are truly feeling. They’ll never be able to really grasp what you’re going through. However, God knows! He sees what you are enduring, he feels your pain and he hears your cry. What you can’t explain, he sees and already understands. What may be brushed off by others as trivial, minor or of no real merit, God will take the time to listen and give you the guidance you need. It may not always be what you want to hear, but it will definitely be what you need.
One of my life resolutions, is to make seeking God first my life habit. Whether it be in my relationship, career decisions, ministry, etc. I want to do as the psalmist:
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:1-2
Truly God is where our help comes from. He will never slumber or sleep. He will never get weary of your requests. He will never hold anything over your head, He will never ever disappoint. Today, as we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, I am sure that he had many rough nights. I am sure that some days Dr. King questioned whether this fight was worth it as they burned crosses on his lawn. I am sure he had many confused moments. But, Dr. King knew where his help came from. He had a call, a mission, he found something worth fighting for and he committed himself to it and when things got tough, he looked towards the sky for he knew where his help came from.
Whatever you may me enduring in your life, know that God’s got your back. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. Dr. King may no longer be here, but his nights of tears and his years or ridicule brought his DREAM to life. So today, if like me things seem a little hazy, uncertain, unclear, just CRAZY? look to God and press on. He understands, he cares and he will bring you THROUGH THIS.
Memory Text:
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. – Psalm 73:25
Prayer Prompt:
Lord, teach me to place my cares, concerns, and everything on you. Remind me to seek you first in all things.
