In this Place…

This entry is part 4 of 6 in the series God Cares

Last night as I commuted home, I began to hum:

You are awesome in this place mighty God.
You are awesome in this place ABBA Father.
You are worthy to be praised,
To you our voice we raise.
You are awesome in this place mighty God.

As I continued to hum the song, I began to reflect on the words of the song. I wondered what was meant by in this place? Where was this place in which God was awesome? It made sense when it was sung in church, but here in this dingy train amongst the noise and the rush was God as equally awesome? I began to smile when I realized that in this place meant more than just a physical place. I realized that God is with me wherever I may be. He is in the temple of my heart. He there when I am sad, he’s there when things are hard, he’s there when things are shady, he’s there when things are happy and he’s there when things are just things.

It brought me great joy to know that God is awesome in this sinful place called my life and that He is ready, willing and able to deliver me. The awesome thing about the God that we serve is that we don’t have to go to a particular building, pray a certain prayer, face a certain direction or bring a blemish-free sacrifice for him to hear our prayers. He is able to save us wherever we may be. This very month marks four years since I escaped a domestically violent relationship in Winter Haven, Florida. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would have made it out alive. But, in the midst of the mess God was awesome. He not only provided me a way out, but has since allowed me to share my testimony with so many women (and some men too) that have since escaped 15 years or more of domestic abuse.

Where I am today is a testament of how awesome God is in ANY space. All that he asks of us is to let him in. Once he is in, he can’t help but to be awesome. I don’t know what you may be experiencing today. Whatever it may be, I have stopped by to encourage you in the Lord. He is faithful! If he can save a lowly sinner like me, he can do amazing things for you.

Knock, Knock, Won’t you let him into your place?

Memory Text:

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. – Revelations 3:20

Prayer Prompt:
Thank you Lord for reminding me that you are awesome in any “place” that I may find myself. Help me to call on you and to let you in when you come knocking.
