Not by your might

Last Tuesday evening I read the entire book of Revelation. I was determined to refresh my knowledge of the prophecies. After I completed reading it, I decided to read the book of Daniel. I have always been told that you can’t really grasp a full understanding of Revelation without reading the book of Daniel. So, I decided to do so. As I read the book, I realized that King Nebuchadnezzar really had a pride issue. I mean, how many times did he proclaim that God is God? Yet, he kept glorifying himself.

True to form, he commands his entire kingdom to bow down to a golden image of himself. Three Hebrew boys, whose Babylonian names were Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego decided not to bow down to the image. So, King Nebuchadnezzar had them cast into a fiery furnace. As soon as he cast them in, he saw a fourth person in the furnace and the three young men and this person were strolling around in the furnace as though they were walking along a beach on a breezy day. PULL THEM OUT! he commands. He then declares, their God is God. You would think that he learned his lesson right? NOPE!

Even after such a miracle as this, King Nebuchadnezzar seemed to not get that only God deserved all the praise. Though he saw miracles, though he saw the power of God, he just couldn’t get it through his skull. God had to literally turn him into a hideous looking beast grazing on grass like an oxen for Nebuchadnezzar to get that HE HIMSELF IS NOTHING without God.

Many of us can relate to this story. We often forget that if it weren’t for the almighty God we would be NOTHING. The programs we put on, the inspirational sermons we preach, the solos we sing or even the generous donations we give, are not by our might, but by the power of the all knowing, all powerful God. I realized that I needed to learn how to step back and let God get the glory in everything I do. All of my talents, gifts, etc. they all belong to God. I came into this earth with nothing, if I become anything it is by the grace and mercy of God.

One of my Life Resolutions is to humble myself and give God the stage. As the Gospel Artist Kierra Sheard beautifully sings,

“God is Headlining this show, to introduce him is what I’m here for. So without further delay, it’s time time to take to the stage and I move out the way so that they’ll only see you that’s inside of me.”

This is the level that I pray to attain in my life.

Have you made yourself invisible? Who do others see when you minister? Is it you or God?

I pray that we will learn to let God take the stage afterall, it is not by our might.

Memory Text:

So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. – Zechariah 4:6

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, please take center stage in my life. Let everything that I do be to glorify you and you alone.
