What’s the deal with the Sabbath?

God and the Sabbath

The seventh-day Sabbath is a commemoration of creation. It is a time where we ought to reflect on the majesty of God and celebrate him for being God. God made the seventh-day holy because on this day he rested from all of his work. The Sabbath was created for man and not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27) God had no intention of making the Sabbath a burden, but a day of rejoicing and praise and REST. On this day, he calls us to rest from all of our weekly work, stresses of the week, etc. (Exodus 20:8-10) On this day, we take some time to thank him for being who he is and show our appreciation for all of the things that he has created for us and all that he has done for us throughout the week. The Biblical Sabbath day is a Saturday. He orders us to remember the sabbath-day and keep it holy. (Exodus 20:8). So whenever possible, we must try our best to set apart some time to commemorate the creator. With that said, God is not concerned with whether we choose to rest on the Sabbath-Saturday or any other day. Many faiths will blatantly condemn others for not keeping the Saturday-Sabbath. This is wrong! God calls us to enter a REST with him and spend some time with HIM. By doing so, we show him that no creation, no person, NOTHING is more important than HIM. Therefore, we willingly put all things aside to spend some time- even a 24-hour period at his feet. So wherever possible, take a sabbath rest and spend time with your creator.
